A New Generation of Stain Resistant Decking.
Deck builders and home owners have been looking for an alternative to traditional decking materials, such as wood and composites, for the last several years. While these materials can provide years of beautiful performance for any Virginia homeowner, they demand a lot of maintenance and can be easily damaged by regular everyday use. Dents from patio furniture, stains from food and beverages, scratches, mold, mildew... all problems of traditional deck materials.
Polyvinyl chloride, commonly abbreviated PVC, is a thermoplastic polymer that is widely used in construction because it is highly durable and easy to assemble. It is most commonly known as the material from which sewer pipes are made, but in recent years has been finding application throughout the home. About DECKMASTER® |
Weston Leavens, a professional deck builder, wanted to give home owners a high-quality fastening system that not only enhanced the look of their deck, but would also help it last years longer than decks built using traditional methods. The DECKMASTER® hidden deck fastening system was the result of Leavens efforts and prove to be everything he hoped it would be and more.
DECKMASTER® is a patented hidden fastening system that eliminates the need to damage deck boards during installation. Screwing or nailing through the top of the deck boards is not only unsightly, but it actually damages the boards and shortens the lifespan of your deck. The cavities formed by the screws or nails when they go in collect water. The water seeps down, into the board, causing it to swell. About Ipe |
IPÉ (aka. Brazilian Hardwood - pronounced "ee-pay") is one of many names used for the group of trees from the various species of Tabebuia. The trees generally grow from 140 to 150 feet, but some can reach heights of 200 feet. The trees are mostly found in Brazil as well as throughout Central and South America.
Ipé's strong, tough resilient properties make it an excellent material and increasingly popular choice for commercial/residential decking and outdoor furniture. It is prized for its stability, durability, strength and natural resistance to decay, wet conditions, and infestation by termites. Ipé wood decking is hard, strong and so dense that slivers are not a problem. Ipé lumber is almost twice as dense as most woods and up to 5 times harder. It is available in long lengths and relatively easy to season. Ipé has a Class-A Fire Rating, the same rating given to concrete and steel.
Ipé wood is a beautiful exotic wood with rich dark brown colors, like a mahogany, so not only lasts a long time but Ipé decking has the beauty of a piece of fine interior furniture. If left untreated, sunlight turns it to a natural silver gray color that can be restored to its original color with limited work.
